Grandmaster Nelson Estanol was born in the Philippines on April 29, 1945. He started practicing martial arts as a little boy of 9 years old. Besides escrima, one of the other martial arts he started practicing as a child was Shorin-Ryu Karate, one of the major modern systems of Okinawan Karate. GM Estanol's main teacher in Okinawan Karate was Grandmaster Chingi Grandeza and followed by advanced school in Okinawa when he was in the US Navy, where he earned his 3rd degree black belt. Upon retirement from the Navy, GM Nelson continued his knowledge in escrima through Supreme Grandmaster Bert Labitan for 10 years and promoted him to 10th degree grandmaster before he went to heaven. Currently he is the head of Siete Pares Escrima.
